“I help individuals and families steward their wealth with clarity and care, so they can make thoughtful decisions with confidence across generations.”

Sean Christopher Tan is a Client Adviser at Providend, Southeast Asia’s first fee-only comprehensive wealth advisory firm.

Sean entered the wealth advisory profession after his own search for trustworthy financial advice. Through this journey, he came to believe that good advice should be clear, dependable, and firmly centred on the client’s best interests, not driven by product sales or commissions. This belief led him to Providend, where the firm’s values and long-term approach closely align with his own.

Trained in social work, Sean brings a person-centred perspective to his advisory work. He recognises that financial decisions often involve personal values, family considerations, and emotions around uncertainty. His approach is grounded in careful listening, understanding the broader context of each client’s situation, and helping them think through decisions calmly and clearly.

At Providend, Sean works with individuals and families to clarify what matters most to them and to design practical, evidence-based financial plans that support these priorities over time. Guided by the Philosophy of Sufficiency, he helps clients understand how much is enough, balancing enjoyment of life today with long-term security, without taking on unnecessary risk.

In addition to his advisory work at Providend, Sean is an Associate Wealth Planner with the Financial Planning Association of Singapore, reflecting his commitment to ethical and professional financial planning.

Outside of work, Sean values time with his wife and daughter, which he sees as an important anchor. He stays active through pickleball, pilates and yoga and practises regular journaling as a way to reflect and stay grounded. He enjoys conversations around parenting, health, and wellbeing, and believes that a well-lived life is supported not just by good wealth planning, but by attention to both mental and physical wellbeing.

Share one of your proudest parent moments

The first time my daughter hugged me and said, “I love you.” It was a simple moment, but one that filled me with quiet pride and deep gratitude.

How do you take care of your wellbeing?

I am intentional about making space for things that restore me. This includes unhurried time with my wife and daughter, playing pickleball with friends, grounding myself through yoga, reading, and listening to podcasts. I also journal daily and practise gratitude, which helps me stay grounded even on difficult days.

Advice for my younger self

Find the right guidance earlier, especially when it comes to money and life decisions. Take care of your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health, these things compound over time. And trust that the right doors and relationships will open in their own time.

Luckiest thing that has happened to me

Meeting my wife, Fiona. She grounds me and continues to help me grow into a better husband, man, and father.

What is your exercise regime like?

I keep it simple and sustainable. Pickleball for enjoyment and cardio, and pilates and yoga to build strength, flexibility, and prevent injuries. My focus is steady progress rather than perfection.

My proudest accomplishment

Becoming, and continuing to become, someone my family can rely on emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Professionally, I am proud of choosing a career path that aligns with my values.
