Max is a Chartered Accountant and prior to becoming a Wealth Advisor, he had a corporate career for over 17 years, including roles at KPMG and 10 years at Barclays Bank.
Following his own personal experiences of investing across tracker funds, shares trading, buy-to-let properties and direct business investment, he left Barclays in 2016 to start an online financial coaching business and share his passion for life planning and low-cost investing. His mission is to change the face of financial advice to expats in the region and believes true wealth advisory can change one’s life. Supported by Laura, his wife, together they brought on coaching clients from all over the world including the UK, Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai and Australia. They built a business that enabled them to work remotely whilst living 3 months at a time in Spain, Thailand, Bali and Australia.
At the end of 2017, they began to look for a partner firm in order to expand their business and increase the number of services they could provide to clients and found Providend. Shortly after in 2018, Max launched Providend’s Expat Advisory Division and has been focused on giving expats an ethical alternative to financial salespeople in the region.
Outside of work, Max continues to explore his passion for wealth advisory and listens to podcasts and reads books on the topic. He has also completed several triathlons and plans to start training again now that he is back in Singapore. His alter ego as DJ Mr Max has also allowed him to play at many of the big venues in Singapore over the past 7 years.
As a couple, Max and Laura enjoy travelling especially road trips across Australia. They have a house in Ibiza, Spain where they plan to spend as much time as possible and dream of owning a home on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia.

We would go for pre-dinner cocktails on the roof of Potato Head before going for a meal at the nearby restaurants- we frequent Don Ho a lot, and after-dinner drinks at Manhattan. During the Covid period, our date night consists of gin and tonic together with a nice takeaway on our balcony, sometimes with a bottle of wine.
Andrew Hallam. He’s a financial blogger for expats and he genuinely helps people make the most of their money using low–cost tracker funds and avoid expensive financial advisers and sales people.
